(Extra) Ordinary: Inspirational Stories of Everyday People by Keith Maginn is an assortment of inspirational stories symbolizing heroic efforts. The author has collected several stories of real-life situations in which the individuals exhibited extraordinary efforts. This is one of those books that stays with you beyond the last page. One of these extraordinary individuals suffered the death of their 3-year-old in a tragic accident. That alone would send anyone into a state of depression. Instead, the mother of the child persevered and developed a foundation to help those suffering from similar tragedies.
The book includes several stories that will make you examine your own life. People never know what someone is going through. The only thing visible is the after effect. These individuals exhibited great strength in the presence of opposition. The fact that the author has included real stories will touch readers on a personal level. I enjoyed the testimonies because these show the strength that lies within us. When we're faced with trying times, there is an innate ability to either fight or take flight. In either case, the body will display a physical manifestation of our strengths or deepest fears.
This book will welcome readers to a place of accountability. Every choice we make renders a consequence. Everyone in the book could've chosen a less favorable route, but they persevered through the present challenges. Faith grows when it is demonstrated. Everyone in this book showed a measure of faith that can be felt from page to page. I recommend this book to everyone who loves stories of encouragement. There is an extraordinary trait lurking within all of us, just waiting to be activated upon any threat of opposition.
