Exposed Poetry Memoirs: My Battle, My Healing, My Love, My Purpose is an inspiring collection of poems authored by Pre. Kaya' Gilkey. The book is divided into various parts. The first part is a heart-wrenching one where the poet discloses her personal struggles while growing up in a dysfunctional family. In the second section, the author focuses on her healing journey. This part adds encouragement and hope to the overall message of the book. The third discusses Pre. Kaya' Gilkey's experience with love. The beautiful moments that make life worthwhile. In the fourth section, she investigates her purpose in society and the need to speak up against injustices in the world around us. Pre. Kaya' Gilkey explores additional themes in the poems, including rejection, gratitude, fortitude and some societal vices such as bullying and labeling.
Reading Exposed Poetry Memoirs felt like taking a journey through some of my most difficult moments, acknowledging my pain and feeling hopeful that healing is possible. I was inspired by the poet’s ability to openly discuss her painful moments and what her journey towards complete healing has been like. The passages on love were warm and comforting and created a contrasting balance to the first and darkest part of Pre. Kaya' Gilkey’s life. The poems are engaging and they will help any reader really take a closer look at their life and dig deeper into parts of themselves that have been left hidden and covered up for too long. I liked the proactive message included in the last part of the book. It challenged me to actively participate in the world around me and stand up for what is right. Highly recommended!
