Eve’s ducklings by Maria Monte, illustrated by Emelie Wiklund, is a must-have for all children! The colorful, sweet, adorable illustrations perfectly complete this lovely story. We have indeed an ingenious children’s picture book. An adult and a little girl are observing ducklings with a female duck, their mum. Both groups actually mirror each other, thus showing how similar our family relationships can be to those of animals. Each adult is in fact trying to protect their flesh and blood lovingly. Everything is very moving in this story.
In Eve’s ducklings by Maria Monte, Eve is eager to touch, pat, grab the ducklings but she learns not to bother them. She learns from experience that being kind, loving, being ready to share food is the best way to make friends. Her adventure includes falling in the water and being so scared that she refuses, for some time, to go to the lake, one of her favorite walks with her grandfather. But she will eventually get over her fear and deal with her feelings. A beautiful tale of friendship between animals and children which is bound to become a favorite bedtime story. Children tend to be too rough with animals. They probably see them as toys, rather than as beings. This short story will give them all the tools to grow a healthy relationship with animals of all types, be they ducks in a pool or somebody else’s pet. I recommend this beautiful tale!
