A little girl struggles to keep up with her mother as they walk. The child carries a look-alike doll - a perfect replica of Katie. Now the mother has a gruesome chore to attend to, and she must leave the little one and return home. The child is asked to stay on a bench at the waterside and wait. But night falls and her mother doesn’t return. Did she forget? Or has something prevented her from coming back for her child? Regardless, Benjamin can’t leave her there alone. Not after all he’s been through, and the kindness Abe and El have shown him. What has happened to Katie’s mother? Will the nosy neighbor be able to unlock the secret? Is the body in the morgue the missing woman? Will 'Everyone's Child' stay in the Julius household to fill the hole in El's heart?
Everyone’s Child by Cathy McGough is nothing if not surprising. It begins with a happy, comforting tale of a needy child finding love and kindness in the home of Abe and El, who earlier fostered the orphaned Benjamin. But nothing is quite right. Someone is dead, and a mother is missing. Cathy McGough’s Everyone’s Child is a psychological thriller that will have you wondering right to the astonishing end. The conclusion will at first confuse you, then shock you, as you finally put all the puzzle pieces together. The story carries a sinister warning about life and people, but Cathy McGough has delivered yet another tale that will keep you turning the pages right to the eerie end. An enjoyable read.
