Emma and the Silverbell Faeries by Matthew S. Cox is the third book in the Tales of Widowswood series. Ten-year-old Emma lives with her parents, brother Tam, and her Nan in a small two-bedroom house. Her mother, Nan, and Emma are druids and they possess magical qualities. After solving the problem of the Silk Thieves, Emma is back to her normal routine, but not for long. The Silverbell faerie, Neema, wants her help and Emma cannot refuse. Neema tells her that the faeries are in danger and dying, and she thinks Emma can save them. The queen wants Emma to save both the faeries and the animals that have been attacking them. Will Emma succeed in her mission? She is gone for days and feels like she is trapped in Faerie Land? Will she be able to get back to her family?
As in the previous two stories, this book also has its share of fantasy, magic, action, adventure, suspense, and mystery. The exquisite use of language, the elegantly laid out scenes, descriptive narration, vivid imagery, and well sketched characters make this book an enchanting and exciting read. All three books in the series stand on their own and they have their own enigmatic characters, difficult situations, and whimsy that make them captivating to young readers. This series will entertain children who love fantasy, action, and adventure stories. The author’s imagination and creativity stand out in the story and will take young readers into another realm.
