I loved how the author ends her collection with the exhortation that each young reader can make a difference; they can be the ones who tape together others, with “a smile, a kind word, a helping hand or a listening ear.” This interactive flash fiction storybook offers so much to young readers, from the art work to the quest for adventure to being the one who tapes up another. It’s highly recommended.

Edward the Egg: Coloring Tales of Adventure by Julia Fagundus is a children's story and activity book following its titular protagonist as he ventures out to see and try new things. The book is a compilation of short stories that read independently and contain the opportunity for young readers to color in black and white illustrations to bring Edward to life while also engaging a child with age-appropriate visuals. In addition to this, there is a blank page between each adventure that instructs its readers to use their own imaginations and draw in the spaces themselves. Some of the adventures Edward undertakes include fishing, horseback riding, and driving, and all share the common theme of the kindness of others in making us whole again.

Edward the Egg is a really fun concept and the stories woven by Julia Fagundus, which were inspired by tales she told her own inquisitive children, are creative and entertaining. Edward does sneak into places, tag along uninvited, and even jumps into a pool with no knowledge of how to swim and is miraculously able to, all of these obviously being actions that are dangerous. I did enjoy the common format of the writing with Edward almost getting cracked in each episode, followed by a fear of being eaten and ending with a reason why he wasn't. The illustrations are natural and very simple sketches that should make for a quick coloring session before bed. Overall, this is a fun little book that I have no doubt young readers will find enjoyable.
