Dreams Are Unfinished Thoughts by Brian Paone is a memoir of the author’s life that depicts his journey and friendship with the lead singer of God Lives Underwater, David Reilly. Our story begins when Brian attends a God Lives Underwater concert and meets David by chance. The moment these two men meet, they hit it off and become fast friends. Soon the two men are trying to meet as much as possible with Brian attending as many concerts as he can while David takes time out from his busy schedule.
Their connection as friends is incredible and they both cherish the time they spend with each other. However, their time together is short and not fulfilling at times. The friendship between David and Brian is very important for both of them, but the industry in which David works and his drug abuse drive a wedge between the two men that Brian tries to overcome. Together, they try and they try hard, but life has other plans for them.
I know many people would find the connection between the two men romantic (and it might be), but to me it was more like a friendship that went beyond any physical need. They were soul mates and their connection went beyond romance. Being a fan of classic rock, I always thought of God Lives Underwater as the underdogs and David having a distinct voice. Finding this personal insight into the life of a man whose voice and talent I admire was really fun and awe-inspiring. I really enjoyed Brian’s style of writing and found it quite riveting. This was a really enjoyable and at times emotional read! Wonderfully entertaining.
