"Done with Death" by David Babineau takes you into a place that many have heard about and even may have read about, Purgatory. One might wonder why the story is in purgatory. Well, Chuck was one of those people who when he was alive did everything right and everything wrong all in the same life span. What you get in purgatory is grey skies. You cannot imagine anything more boring. It does not matter of course because those in purgatory are going to be there for a very long time, so they go ahead and do whatever they like. Chuck, however, is an inventive soul and has found a way to make things better for his afterlife. The only downside is that the universe is about to collapse thanks to his efforts.
I read this David Babineau book from cover to cover in one sitting and several times I was literally laughing out loud. This is such a fresh take on a story that I would not even know where to put it as a genre. The wit and humor contained within the pages is razor sharp and macabre and utterly enjoyable. It is refreshing to see a new and unique style of writing and yet the book also feels classic. Chuck is an amusing character and while he may be bringing about the collapse of the universe you still cannot help but like him. I mean if you were stuck in purgatory wouldn’t you want to get out too? I know I would! If you like dark humor and want a fresh book to look at David Babineau has created the perfect book to read.
