Every day we encounter people from different families and cultures. We all have our tastes and peculiarities. This variety can contribute a lot to society. If children understand the importance of diversity and accept it, they will be able to live better with others. Marisa J Taylor gives many clear examples in Diversity to me / La diversidad para mi: A bilingual English Spanish book. Here, Havana explains with examples the meaning of 'diversity' to her little sister. She shows different types of cultures, races, and people. We are all different, and that is what makes us original. With colorful illustrations by Fernanda Monteiro and a translation by Gabriella Aldeman, children will have fun learning about social diversity.
Marisa J Taylor shares a lovely message of acceptance. She demonstrates that physical characteristics are not what define us. Her characters are friendly and shown doing a variety of activities. The narrative is easy to follow, with concrete ideas and clear explanations. I think that a bilingual book is perfect for talking about diversity and inclusion. I loved the illustrations. Fernanda Monteiro shows us a great variety of characters, situations, and scenarios so the content is colorful and cheerful. For these reasons, parents and teachers will have excellent material to talk about the subject and answer children's questions. Gabriella Aldeman does a great job of translation. Although the phrases are not always literal, they remain natural, conveying the feelings better. Diversity to me / La diversidad para mi will teach children to accept themselves and others.
