Demon Chronicles: The Chaos Prophecy by Aerum Delevan takes us into a land of gods and different races. The war of the gods has ended and the grand god of light adopted the greater demons for helping him. Things seem as if they could be okay on the surface, but, as with anything, that is not the case. A world of different races means everyone has something different going on within their community; the Merserino have gone back to being apathetic, the Vorihelcom have all but vanished into thin air, while the Silvarian race is almost completely extinct. When one of their kind is born to humans on earth, problems come with him. The last of his kind, his looks cause him to stand out and not fit in with the human ideal of normal, but his powers prove to be the biggest problem for young Orran. The power he has no control over nearly kills his mother and causes him to flee. After meeting Lord Nosfaren, Orran is thrown into a world of prophecy and destiny. What will his life be like in the end?
If you enjoy science fiction, you are going to enjoy the world that Aerum Delevan has created. This is a great freshman novel and if this is any indication of where the author is going, I look forward to reading more from him. Orran is a captivating character and, while I couldn't quite connect with him, I did enjoy the adventure as it unfolded. The world being laid out for you is rich and there is no shortage of details to enable you to picture everything. This book was a complete joy and adventure to read. If you want to venture to a new world, meeting new characters and cultures, while following the life of a young boy who never should have been born on the planet he was, this is a book you will love. The book is refreshing and breathes some fresh life into a genre that can sometimes fall victim to its own well established tropes. I can't wait for another installment.
