Samantha Church has already faced tremendous danger and hardship, but things are not getting much better for her in Dead Wrong by Betta Ferrendelli. Still recovering from injuries she received during a kidnapping, Sam feels guilty for Wilson’s need for a prosthesis to replace the hand that was amputated. In addition, she is mourning the death of her sister who was investigating a crime that Sam had written about for her newspaper. Sam finds herself involved in yet another mystery which brings her in touch with some good and not so good people. Involving any more innocent people is not what she wants to do but, without help, Sam and Wilson, her friend and editor, just can’t collect enough evidence to move ahead with their story. When things get really tough, instead of support from her boyfriend, Trace, Sam learns that he doesn’t see their relationship the same way. With this hit to her ego and the stress of the investigation, will Sam be able to hold on to her sobriety?
Betta Ferrendelli has done an amazing job portraying a deeply real character in Dead Wrong. Sam is a normal, everyday woman with more than her fair share of issues. We see a vulnerable person who is doing her best in spite of some of the bad choices she has made and hardships life has thrown at her. Along with Sam, the other characters present ‘real life’ issues that demonstrate the difficulty of handling a job, bad relationships, personal loss, loneliness and great insecurity. Dead Wrong is a great mystery story that really touches the sensitive places so many people try to hide.
