Ana’s husband is unfaithful. On top of that he moves out and her 14 year old daughter (daddy’s girl) blames Ana for the break up.
Ana thinks a Quinceanera is just the thing to get her daughter’s mind off of the break up. A Quinceanera is a celebration of a girl entering womanhood. The nice simple part turns in to utter chaos.
This was a great story about real life. It deals with divorce, teenagers, culture and growing up.
The story is written with a lot of humor. Carmen is a brat. Beatriz tries to be helpful but has her own emotional upheaval. This is a multi layered story. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t easy to read because I was so unfamiliar with the culture. I learned a lot.
The characters are exquisite. They are complex. I like this book and highly recommend it.
