Death is a fact of life. Grief is hard. Wilfredo A Vargas addresses these difficult issues in Dad Rides in Heaven Now! When a child goes through grief, they often feel all alone. They feel they are the only ones who have experienced such an emotional upheaval. Adults struggle with grief, but it can be almost unbearable for a child. Children need to know they are heard and are not alone. Parents, grandparents, or caregivers must be attentive to the grieving child. Giving the child a listening ear is invaluable. Sometimes it helps to just sit and cry with the child. This book will help open the door to discussing deep emotional feelings. Sit, pull your child close, and read this wonderful little book. Will writes from the experience of losing his brother.
After losing a parent, a child normally feels alone and deserted. They often feel lost and do not know how to understand life any longer. Wilfredo A Vargas lost his brother and then was asked questions by the brother’s children. Wilfredo seeks to fill the need to be there for children who are grieving in Dad Rides in Heaven Now! Jeric Tan has contributed wonderful drawings to help children visually understand the grieving process. The elephants are such a great choice to illustrate this since grief can feel like an elephant is sitting on your chest. Together, Wilfredo and Jeric have produced a book that can change a child’s life. Depression after a loss is normal, and children need to know that what they are feeling is felt by many others. They are just reacting like anyone else, and they will also make it through to a new normal.
