In the past few years the right to bear arms has been under attack. Nevertheless, Ludwig Sawicki ran a successful gun shop. Confessions of an EX-Gun Dealer is Ludwig’s story. He became interested in guns in high school. Once he was “paroled” from high school, he began collecting guns. Soon the ATF showed up at his door wanting to know why he owned 63 registered firearms. It was one of the ATF agents who suggested he open a gun shop. Ludwig had struggled to find his niche in life, and an ATF agent had just offered the perfect suggestion. Suddenly, Ludwig knew what he would do with his life. He would sell firearms. So began a successful career.

Ludwig was careful to make his shop appealing. He included barstools to encourage customers to stay and visit, and they did…some for 4 or 5 hours. There were some frightening moments like the time a sheriff came into the store demanding Ludwig over look the laws and sell him a weapon waiving the waiting period. Ludwig sent the man running. Then there was Wild Bill and the rattlesnakes.

Ludwig continues his book by sharing often humorous stories of his clients/friends. He recounts a night of coleslaw and setting a table on fire. There is a story about a man falling from the sky. The stories are humorous and kept me laughing. He ends his book with this quote, "Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.”

Confessions of an Ex-Gun Dealer proves that Ludwig Sawicki not only knows guns. He knows people, and he knows how to write. I found his book fascinating. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I read the cover but when I delved inside I was quickly enchanted by Ludwig’s tale. He writes with great wit. I suspect he kept a journal throughout his business years. The photos make the book more personal. As I read this book I thought about our local gun shop owner. Monty I bet you have some tales you could share. This is a great read and easy to recommend.
