Theresa Sopko's Cold Sober is a collection of poetry that revolves around that theme we all know so well when it comes to poets and when it comes to life in general. Love. These are NOT the trite and rhyming sort of poems that make us cringe inwardly and grate our teeth. These are the gems of a real relationship, the beginning of it and continued progression of it. A mixture of long, short, and one-line poetry that allows the reader the opportunity to have a sampling of all forms. The author says a lot in the short amount of time that it takes to read Cold Sober which, as a society that seems to be without enough hours in a day, is a positive that can be appreciated by all.

I've been "in" Theresa Sopko's poems. It's been years since I've been there, but I can readily see and feel everything she is describing again. It is as though I were stepping into a time machine to a better place, where my body felt more like a body, than just a lump sitting in a chair, working and living. If you happen to be experiencing a kind of love drought, this book will remind you of those feelings you once possessed. She is able to instill in the reader a very helpful youth elixir that some of us need from time to time. Her words are descriptive and, though they don't rhyme, have that aura of a perfect poetic rhythm, that could beat a rhyme with one hand tied behind its back. I highly recommend this book; if you are in or out of love, you won't want to miss the chance to read it.
