Cleta Virgil Cox: Shenanigans of a Funeral Home Janitor by Lana Ramos tells the story of Cleta and her amazing gift for seeing the recently departed and ‘helping’ them come to terms with their death and move onto a better place. She, however, does not want this gift and more often argues with them to leave her alone, threatening the most irritating with Hell if they do not accept that they are dead and must depart. Cleta's life is troubled with an alcoholic mother and a distant father, and a love life that is definitely not filled with romance. Cleta doesn’t even have a quiet sanctuary at home which she shares with her dog, Brandt, because the stiffs will follow her everywhere. She has the gift to counsel the dead into accepting their fate, but Cleta just wants a quiet life and believes most of them deserved their end, and in some cases, she wishes their deaths had been more brutal.
Cleta Virgil Cox: Shenanigans of a Funeral Home Janitor by Lana Ramos has taken the usually morbid subject of death and created a laugh out loud story that will have tears running down your face throughout. Cleta is a brilliant character and someone you would love to have as a friend because she has no filter for people's feelings, especially the dead people who follow her around or, as she calls them, ‘stiffs.' I loved the descriptive language used because although the subject of death is tragic, the author put a great spin of humour on it. I also loved the banter between Cleta and Connie. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves humour or ghost stories. But do not read this book in public because you will laugh in the most unexpected places. Good twist at the end too, I wasn’t expecting that.
