Butterfly Butterfly is an illustrated children’s book written in rhyme by Cammie Ho. Highlighting the life cycle of a butterfly, Cammie Ho shows the simple round egg, pupa, and caterpillar (of so many various colors and shapes) perched on different types of leaves as the caterpillar eats and grows. When the caterpillar has stuffed itself full of food, it makes a chrysalis cocoon and hides itself inside as the caterpillar’s body metamorphoses into something completely new while it sleeps. When the caterpillar’s slumber is over, the chrysalis cocoon splits open, while the most amazing butterfly emerges. So many different shapes and colors come from each caterpillar which has been transformed. With its new body shape, the butterfly sucks nectar from the flowers through a long straw-like mouth, while helping spread the pollen of the flowers so that they can blossom and thrive. When it needs water, it simply flies down to the surface of a lake or a puddle and takes a sip before flying away.
The incredible color photographs contained in Butterfly Butterfly are simply breathtaking and, combined with the text, help readers of all ages, whether young or old, to see the complete life cycle of the butterfly in the spring time. They are always fascinating to watch when they are in your garden and are vital for the ecosystem. Cammie Ho has produced a book which will bring a whole new respect towards butterflies from the younger generation and, with luck, people will stop seeing caterpillars as pests which need to be sprayed. Helping a butterfly to survive its life cycle not only brings about beauty in Nature, but also produces wow factor with a smile. I recommend this book to all ages, especially lovers of gardening, and to those who wish to teach their children about the many changes that the caterpillar has to go through in order to become its adult self ... the butterfly.
