In Bringing Grandma Home by Stanley G Buford, we are introduced to Tee and Kay, who are two sisters unhappy because of all the changes the Corona Virus has brought about. They weren’t able to go to school, play at the park with friends, or go on any special trips because of the virus. They didn’t like wearing masks everywhere and their hands were chapped and sore from washing so much. They find out their grandma is in the hospital with Covid-19. The whole family is worried, and they plan on bringing grandma to stay at their house once she gets better. They are upset because they couldn’t even go to visit their grandma in the hospital. The days passed and the family was doing the same routine over and over again which was boring for the girls. Finally, their grandma came home from the hospital which made Tee and Kay very happy. They complained to their grandmother about not being able to go to school or play and how they had to wash their hands all the time. Grandma then explained to the girls why it was important to do so, that it was safer to follow the rules. Tee and Kay realized it wasn’t so bad social distancing because at least they had each other.

I found Bringing Grandma Home a very adorable yet important read for young children. During this pandemic, a lot of adults are confused and frustrated at the situation our country is currently in and I cannot even imagine how bad it feels for a child. It’s a sweet tale, and yet it teaches important lessons to be learned. Social distancing and washing your hands are very important to prevent the virus from spreading. Many elderly people are getting very sick from Covid. At the nursing home I work at, quite a few families took their loved ones home during this pandemic to be able to see them and so that their families will be together. I think Stanley G Buford has done a brilliant job in taking a serious situation and making it easy to understand and enjoyable to read.
