Brain Food for Thought: Not Quite 100...Zen and Other Spiritual Quotes and Proverbs to Enlighten Your Mind (Making Mindful Meditation) by Daniel Hilldrup is an inspiring book full of quotations from Zen Masters. If I understand it correctly, peace is not to be sought but to be lived. As long as we are seeking peace, we will have no peace; but, when we live in peace, we find everything peaceful. Most of the quotations in this book are by Zen Masters such as Lao Tzu, Ram Dass, Thich Nhat Hanh, Rumi, and even the Buddha himself. I totally agree with the quotation by Chogyam Trungpa: “The only way to deal with fear is to face it head-on.” This is a book that inspires you to think and allow peace to rule over your mind. The use of words and language is succinct and used to point to reality. Sit down, relax, and enjoy the journey.
Daniel Hilldrup wants to share the peace he has found in Zen Buddhism. In Brain Food for Thought, he shares ninety-nine quotations from some of the best-known Zen Masters and a few others. He does not expect the reader to analyze the quotations but to experience and live them. Daniel does not write commentary on the various sayings but allows them to speak for themselves. The reason Daniel does not share 100 quotations is he desires the reader to write their own saying as the 100th quotation. Daniel compiled these quotations, sharing ninety-nine from the millions he could choose from. He did a good job in sharing the quotations that will help most people become peaceful. I believe you will enjoy this book as much as I did.
