Blood Tail: A Lieutenant Beaudry Novel, Volume 1, is a police procedural novel written by M. Michael Kent. Robert Beaudry's plan for a reconciliatory special evening out with his wife, Colleen, seemed to be going pear-shaped as she announced her plans to accept a promotion which would mean she'd be working in Ottawa, several hours away from Montreal where the couple had been living. While she blamed the separation on Beaudry's neglect of her and claimed that he was putting his job over her needs, he realized that she just wanted out, and deep inside he was rather relieved. Their brief marriage had make it clear that their interests were incompatible at best. Still, his attempt to make things work was interrupted with an urgent phone call from his boss, Homicide Captain Jean O'Neil. There was a double slaying in an exclusive neighborhood of Montreal, and the captain wanted him to head up the investigation. While Robert took down the address of the crime scene, Colleen left him sitting alone at the restaurant.
M. Michael Kent's police procedural murder mystery, Blood Tail: A Lieutenant Beaudry Novel, Volume 1, is a suspenseful and well-written story with a grand cast of characters. Kent's body-builder lieutenant is everything a mystery lover could ask for in a police detective, and his unofficial CSI partner, Dobson, is the perfect complement for him. The plot of Blood Tail is exciting and filled with twists, turns and red herrings. I particularly enjoy police procedurals and appreciated seeing how the investigation was conducted in Montreal. Kent's inclusion of classic cars throughout the story was also a real plus for me. I thoroughly enjoyed Blood Tail: A Lieutenant Beaudry Novel, Volume 1, and am looking forward to reading the subsequent volumes in Kent's Lieutenant Beaudry Novels. Blood Tail is most highly recommended.
