Blade of Truth: The De-Coding of Jo is the second book in the Ascending Angel Academy Series by Lali A. Love. The story and struggles of Jo continue as she makes a place for her found family in her heart and ensures that everyone is safe. Gaia is struggling to survive after being poisoned, and she knows more people are in danger now. Planet Earth needs saving, and they need someone powerful to do it. It seems like Jo and her friends are the perfect solution to this problem, but are they ready for the responsibility? They are just kids, after all. Jo does not know who she can trust and if she can trust anyone, for that matter. The only thing she knows is that she cannot back down now, not when the future and the survival of the world depend on her. She and her friends will have to face dangers unlike anything before and come out victorious somehow.
Emotions run high in Blade of Truth from the opening scene and Lali A. Love ensures the reader is glued to the story from the beginning. Readers will find the perfect mix of paranormal with Young Adult angst in this epic fantasy. I love it when fantasy authors give their characters simple and easy-to-pronounce names. This makes it much easier for me to connect with the characters and understand their story. Jo is a smart girl, even if she is too young for the responsibilities she has to shoulder. I loved the narrative and especially how each scene was described. My favorite scenes included Gaia, but of course, Jo stays at the forefront of the story. It is an exciting story, something that is very different from typical YA fiction.
