Geared toward Christian managers, no matter their area and level of expertise within an organization, but who need to solve human resource challenges on a daily basis, Biblical HR: Applying Eternal Truths to Everyday Work, by Brett Billups, is a compendium of Bible-based information on how to cope with everyday crises in the workplace. Divided into four different sections, namely Relationships, Evaluating, Environment, and Self-doubt, the work focuses particularly on how to navigate performance reviews and how to handle ethical and moral problems in line with biblical precepts. Guidelines on how to deal with both the negatives and the positives on the work front are provided in depth. In addition to carefully signposting the various chapters of this book with appropriate subheadings, nearly all the chapters end by referencing several biblical passages, on each of which a key question is set, which could form a core fulcrum around which a work-related Bible study discussion could be held.
I particularly enjoyed the pragmatic and practical way in which the HR professional, Brett Billups, tackles workplace dilemmas in a Christ-centered way. The author’s hands-on experience of over two-and-a-half decades of Christian witness in the corporate world has enabled him to produce a moving and motivational account of how to overcome negativity and worldliness on the work front. That he has thought long and deeply about the pivotal issues here clearly shows, as much in the logical and straightforward manner of his approach, as in the soul-searching questions that he asks. Biblical HR: Applying Eternal Truths to Everyday Work is highly recommended by other key professionals in the field of HR, and is a volume well worth investing in by any organization or individual that wishes to leave a Christian mark upon the world.
