For young readers who love adventures, Beyond the Birch by Torina Kingsley is a book they cannot stop reading. It tells the story of Macy, a young girl who has a problem to solve. Strange things have started to happen in her house: she discovers that familiar objects have been replaced or have disappeared, and her loving mother has begun to behave in an unusual way. Does this have anything to do with the legend of the Faeries, even if no one has seen these creatures in a long time? It is up to youngsters to help Macy and her friend Jay find out the truth.
I enjoyed reading Beyond the Birch. Torina Kingsley's story is superb for several reasons. First of all, Beyond the Birch has all the ingredients a lover of adventures wants, including an agreeable protagonist, odd things needing an explanation, an old legend, mystery, and action. I particularly liked that Kingsley dwells on Macy's thoughts even when they are not closely related to the main story (for example, when the girl reflects on her small town). These passages are short but noteworthy, and I consider them delightful pauses. I also appreciated Kingsley's accurate descriptions. Each word contributes to creating an atmosphere that invites you to learn everything about Macy, Jay, and the Faeries. They all become real, and a reader as young as Macy will consider her a friend in the end. I recommend Beyond the Birch with all the enthusiasm of a satisfied reader, and I hope I will have the chance to read more books by Torina Kingsley soon.
