Becoming The Change (The Power of Cultural Intelligence) by Loren Rosario-Maldonado, with a foreword by David Livermore, is a cultural non-fiction book that would appeal most to a diverse audience of young adults and adults who are interested in their intricate internal landscapes. Cultural intelligence, also known as CQ, has a keen impact on numerous facets of everyday life from leadership to relationships. Learning how to use CQ can enable one to broaden their horizons, improve their leadership skills, and empathize better with others. Are you ready to learn how to use cultural intelligence in your life?
Becoming The Change by Loren Rosario-Maldonado is a well-written book with an attention-grabbing cover; I have to say the multi-colored woman in the image caught my attention and interest. The book itself is not just another self-help book filled with advice or an educational plan; instead, it's a story of self-discovery. I connected with the author’s experience in the preface of trying to help convince an employee to practice her English more, without realizing the insensitivity she displayed in her approach and the missed social cue. This story resonated with me because I had a similar experience once. The author did a great job of discussing difficult topics like cultural bias and privilege while interspersing the content with personal anecdotes and advice. I found the C.H.O.I.C.E. method to be particularly interesting and I plan to use it to begin my journey. Overall, this book is a gold mine of information that would be useful to everyone, but especially to those in leadership positions.
