Be Brilliant...Be Bold...Be Beautiful You - The Essential Guide for the Perplexed on Writing, Publishing & Selling Your Book by B.K. Walker is not only a step by step guide for the beginner author, but is also full of inspiration and warnings about what not to do. While not everyone wants to be an independent or "indie" author, there are a lot of risks involved when choosing a publishing house. Certain presses are known as "Vanity Presses" and will only publish you in name, but not help on any other aspect of the publishing industry, including marketing, social media, etc. There were a lot of great tools and websites that Walker suggests will really help authors out. She even included ways that she herself has used to write and outline her book, which I thought was cool and very helpful. It's always nice to see how a fellow author plies her trade, so that you can learn and benefit from it.
While the title may be a mouthful, the book certainly isn't. Weighing in at only a little only thirty pages, you would be surprised at the amount of information that B.K. Walker has been able to impart into her book. One of the best take-aways that I really found beneficial was the sections on social media and marketing. These areas really make or break authors, especially the target audience of indie or non-professionally published authors. By giving a few tips, tricks, and the idea that you don't really need to spend millions on a marketing plan to get a plan that's WORTH a million dollars, will save future authors a lot of heartbreak in the pocketbook area.
