BattleWolfe is a historical novel by Kathryn Le Veque. Heavily injured during a border skirmish, Warwick Herringthorpe (War) finds himself saved and healed by none other than one of their kin, the beautiful Scottish lass Annaleigh Desdemona Scott. After learning that he is the biological son of the legendary William de Wolfe, War sets off to Questing Castle for a potentially unpredictable encounter with the greatest knight in England. Meanwhile, sensing hostility amongst his clan, Chief Ian Scott sends his daughter Annaleigh to Questing Castle, where her cousin Jordan is the wife of Lord William. Meeting each other for the second time lights a fire in both War's and Annaleigh's hearts and soon they find themselves falling for each other. But nefarious men from Annaleigh's clan will put her life in grave danger.
BattleWolfe is an engrossing read for romance and historical fiction lovers alike. Set during the 13th century, Kathryn Le Veque's fascinating tale follows two people from opposite sides of the Anglo-Scottish border who form an unexpected connection they never anticipated. Le Veque fleshes out each character with backstories that give them agency in their actions. It makes them all the more compelling to read about and easy to root for. War and Annaleigh's affection for each other feels genuine, and their love story is the prime focus of the narrative. I also enjoyed War's and William's personalities and the complex dynamic between the two. A must-read for fans of medieval fiction and romance.
