In August Fire by author Kasey Riley, we find ourselves following the story of Stephanie Bascom and Doyle Garrison. From the moment they meet, sparks fly, but not necessarily good ones. Doyle is a former military man and polite to a fault, and Stephanie is spunky and independent and she’s already decided that love just isn’t for her. But when a serial arsonist targets Riverview, their small Colorado town, and they have to survive the fire together, more than just the landscape is set aflame. But will Doyle and Stephanie be able to get over their past hurts in order to love each other? And will the arsonist, seemingly ever more intent on causing destruction and even death, give them the time to do it?
I really enjoyed August Fire. It’s a fast-paced and suspenseful thrill ride, with a hefty dose of romance thrown in to boot. Stephanie and Doyle are well-drawn characters. Doyle is that drool-worthy type of hunk that says “Ma’am,” and Stephanie is quite a bit impetuous, and they’ll both feel real to you. Author Kasey Riley is very skilled at writing realistic scenes that are vividly drawn. August Fire would appeal to any reader who loves romances, mysteries or reads filled with suspense. The only advice I would have for a reader is to be sure you have enough time set aside to read this entire book in one sitting, because once you start it, you won’t want to put it down! Kasey Riley shows great promise as an author, and I certainly hope she continues her work in this vein. I, for one, will certainly watch for her next release with great anticipation.
