Anna is the world's only known superhero and greatly loved by the people. However, she finds herself losing interest in her day job, so she plans a trip to Mars. Along the way, she meets several other women, all who have their own stories to tell and travels to take. Anna the Powerful has all the other elements that easily grab my interest; strong female leads, science fiction and fantasy. Even though superhero is not necessarily one of my favorite genres, this particular superhero female lead is fascinating. It is definitely not your typical superhero story with a secret identity, secret lair and whatnot. The story starts with Anna’s interview on the We Talk Live show, which I absolutely enjoyed. Author Beau Hindman does an excellent job in making the interview as realistic and ‘normal’ as any real talk shows that we see on TV.
Anna is akin to a celebrity – she has her own personal staff and assistants. There are also the other characters, each with their own eccentric but captivating story; Lily and Zora, and their Jack Daniels rock band that they formed with the vivacious Val. Then there’s Duggy with her spaceship built for Mars. Along with its cross-genre strength, the story has great depth and the characters in Anna the Powerful have personal matters as well as issues that readers can easily relate to. It’s impenitent in its quirks, but very well-written, and Hindman proves to be a brilliant author. All in all, it is a fun and exciting read.
