Abigail Trammell runs a boarding house in the small Appalachian village of Drovers Gap. One day, the mysterious Wendl VonTrier became her tenant. Wendl is a púca sent by Godmother Wandalena from Trier Abbey to bring Sister Gobnait from the human world, also known as the Shadow, to the Otherworld, for she must take care of the very special bees. But Wendl wasn't the only Otherworld dweller who arrived at Drovers Gap. Ancient evil forces threaten this once quiet village, where the legendary Lugh Long Arm works as a carpenter, and the no less famous Morrigan sisters run a health spa. It all started when someone set ablaze a local Baptist church after Preacher Lewis Redding had thrown his son, Neil, out of the house. Among the Fallen by Henry Mitchell is for fans of fantasy, drama, and magical realism.

In Among the Fallen, Henry Mitchell shows us an epic battle between good and evil and points out how easily many of us may choose the wrong side. Henry is unapologetically direct while portraying human weaknesses and vices. But the author also highlighted our best features, like in the case of Neil, who dreamed of becoming a forest ranger and dared to confront his controlling father about his future. In this book, supernatural powers affect the mundane lives of regular people. Henry puts mundanity alongside the extraordinary, adds Celtic mythological motifs, and creates an engaging narrative. I appreciated the amazing characters, like the wise Wendl VonTrier, who said, “Money is only attractive to those who want things they can’t have.” Profound metaphors, the author's dry humor, and his thorough knowledge of human nature make Among the Fallen an exceptional read.
