Immerse yourself in an absorbing short story and flash fiction collection with Altiplano and Other Short Stories by David Bassano. At the end of his journey in the Mexican high plains, a traveler finds himself broke and hungry yet feels immensely grateful for his place in the world. On a cold and foggy night, a man receives an unexpected visitor in his house -- a war veteran lost in the memories of his past. The young members of a rock band slowly realize they want something else from their lives, only to regret their choices later. An American volunteer goes to rural Mexico to protect one of the women's rights activists fighting on behalf of local women against police atrocities. An airshow disaster brings a new perspective on gallantry and showmanship for a young boy.

If you love to read short stories almost anywhere at any time, Altiplano and Other Short Stories is the perfect book for you. David Bassano's enthralling collection contains tales that breeze by and leave you with a mix of emotions. This anthology features sixteen short stories alongside flash fiction with a wide range of themes you can pick from any time you get the reading itch. I enjoyed them all, but something about "Rock in the Flood" made it my favorite among the bunch. In these stories, Bassano masterfully captures human emotions in a way that feels genuine and authentic, and it makes his characters easy to sympathize with. I'm glad I read this anthology. For anyone who enjoys short stories, grab a copy and treat yourself. You won't regret it!
