After the Fall: Wielding the Stone brilliantly opens a series that will cast a terrific spell on readers, a perfect blend of fiction and sci-fi by Jeannie Coleman. The novel also features powerful elements that fantasy lovers will find interesting. Readers are introduced to very compelling characters, with Chrysta Williams, a time traveler, on a mission to heal the world and prevent the inevitable from happening. With its scientific tools and knowledge, NASA seems unable to totally prevent a great hazard from harming the earth. Barely recovering from the loss of her parents, Chrysta Williams is the most suitable prospect to take on the arduous mission. Signs of a threat are already visible with the dying plants. Can Chrysta focus on the mission ahead and complete a work her mother started while her heart aches with loss? It is interesting to watch as she takes the call of duty amidst a multitude of challenges.
I was pulled in from the very start of the story with Jeannie Coleman’s powerful prose. I enjoyed how she led the reader into the consciousness of the characters, losing no time in introducing the conflict and the issues at stake. The plot, set against the dynamics of a highly scientific world in the future, is fast-paced and it isn’t without frequent surprises that keep readers interested. The author uses dialogue with style, and it helps to reveal a lot about the characters while moving the plot forward through the dynamics of a huge conflict. It takes a great gift to craft dialogues that read naturally and Coleman seems to possess this gift. The characters are awesome, believable, and real. The plot is as exciting as the characters that move within it, and the overall work reveals a great imagination and a wonderful art of storytelling. After the Fall: Wielding the Stone is a fun read.
