Adventures with Buckwheat: Saturday Mornings is a children's book written by Georgia Minns and illustrated by Jillian Dister. Early one Saturday morning, Buckwheat's mother wakes him. Buckwheat quickly arrives at the breakfast table dressed as a pirate. As he and his mother walk out the front door, Buckwheat's mom pulls a mysterious and ever-so-exciting treasure map from her purse. Each clue on the map will take them to the next location and, with it, the next clue. Buckwheat reads the first clue, taking them to the library. The clue at the library takes them to the post office and, finally, the third clue takes them to the bakery. To Buckwheat's delight, a treasure chest is found at the bakery filled with Buckwheat's favorite treats, which he has well and truly earned for figuring out each clue.
Buckwheat's Saturday mornings certainly sound like so much fun. This adventurous tale by the imaginative Georgia Minns will ensure that each child who reads it will never have a boring weekend again. Pirate maps and hidden treasures are far more exciting than browsing one's social media account on the weekend. The feeling of pride that Buckwheat must have felt by solving all the clues in the treasure map made the end result more than worthwhile. Such a clever routine is a great idea for bonding families throughout each weekend as time can drag on when parents are doing chores. I highly recommend Adventures with Buckwheat: Saturday Mornings to young readers aged five and over so that weekends will never seem boring again.
