Lead Like a Pro, Inspire Like a Leader by Michael Rivera is a manual designed for leaders in the healthcare industry. However, leaders in other industries may also find it useful. Based on his 15 years of experience as a healthcare executive and regional vice president, the author introduces six core pillars in this well-written guide. He considers these pillars to be the foundation for success. The first is the organizational pillar, with insights on achieving organizational goals. The second is the financial pillar, followed by the sales pillar which covers key topics like brand management and reputation. Next is the customer experience pillar, then the human resources pillar, featuring an intriguing discussion on how "rock stars will fall, and rebels will rise." Finally, the leadership pillar shares the importance of building for the future.

Since healthcare leaders often operate like firefighters, it’s no surprise they can get lost in all the noise. This is why Lead Like a Pro, Inspire Like a Leader by Michael Rivera is such a useful book. It uses the six core pillars to guide leaders to lead like pros. The points in the book are clearly conveyed. In particular, I liked the section titled “Key Takeaways” at the end of each chapter. In this section, the important points in the chapter are listed under two headings: Lead Like a Pro, and Inspire Like a Leader. What a great way to get the points across. A truly wonderful book and a must-read for current and aspiring leaders committed to driving their organizations forward.
