Adventure Walks and Monkey Talks by Dickson H. Hunley is a collection of 52 lessons that he has learned from spending time with a very wise four-year-old -- an inquisitive and adventurous boy named Jayden. Hunley suggests reading through this book and really savoring every lesson. As there are 52 lessons, he encourages the reader to make each lesson the focus for one week and this will result in happiness. Some of the lessons included in this book are “be present,” “don’t be in such a hurry,” “little messes are just that, little messes,” and “not all treasures are shiny.” Each lesson is shared plainly and boldly. Then the author shares a personal account relating to the lesson; this is his own experience with the lesson, how he has learned it and ways to encourage the reader to practice and learn the lesson as well.
I enjoyed Dickson H. Hunley’s book so much and am looking forward to taking on his challenge of focusing on one lesson each week for a year. There are just so many valuable lessons included in this book that I recommend every parent should read it! This would make an excellent gift for new parents as it will help them to stay focused on what really is important in life and with raising their child. Not only are each of the lessons so valuable to learn and practice, but they will also remind the reader that he or she is not alone as parents struggle with the same things day in and day out.
Throughout this book, not only will the reader be encouraged to live life to the fullest by enjoying and cherishing each moment, but also remembering to be patient, lead by example, and not quit and give up on yourself or your child.
