When Adam, a little grey and white rabbit, played with his toys one night, he made a horrible mistake. Adam’s father told him to go to bed but, instead, Adam wished for his father to go far, far away to the moon, leaving young Adam to play. After his wish is granted, Adam’s grandfather finds him in tears. Adam and his grandfather travel to the moon to retrieve Adam's father. Once home, Adam brushes his teeth, cleans his room, and promises his dad that he will be a good boy. Adam’s dad tucks him into bed as Adam drifts off to sleep thinking about what a treasure his father is to him.
Adam’s Wish is a delightful children’s picture book written by Rahaf Kanaan and illustrated by Saher Mushtaq that illustrates an elementary theme of a childish wish gone wrong. When the young rabbit rebels against a parental request, he receives the ultimate punishment. A lesson in patience, Adam’s Wish could easily hold a more popular conclusion with an exercise in careful planning by the young rabbit. Adam’s act of selfish desire is common in children who do not agree with the wisdom of a parent’s decisions. This book, with its colorful illustrations and appropriate plot, is a nice addition to pre and early reader libraries. Short and succinct, the storyline is told in a mixture of rhyme and brief sentences to be enjoyed by both the reader as well as the listener. Included at the end of the narration are three coloring pages as a bonus.
