Little Polyglot Adventures, Vol. 2: A Wild Day at the Zoo is a children’s animal picture book written by Victor Dias de Oliveira Santos and illustrated by Eszter Miklos. Dylan and Isabella were especially excited about their upcoming trip to the zoo on Saturday. The zoo had declared a special event for that day. Everyone who visited would be allowed to bring their pets, the only requirement being that they kept the pets with them as they toured the zoo. Dylan knew that Kiki, his pet chicken, would love going to the zoo with the rest of the family. When they got there, they stopped at the zoo store, where the children’s parents bought them popcorn, a bubble toy for Isabella, and a carry bag for Kiki. Everyone had a grand time touring the zoo; however, things got a bit interesting when they visited the giraffes’ enclosure.
Victor Dias de Oliveira Santos’ A Wild Day at the Zoo shares the family’s day at the zoo with young readers. At the same time, it introduces them to foreign words from Brazilian, Ukrainian, Spanish, and Turkish. The translations are given at the bottom of the relevant pages, and there’s a link provided at the front of the book for those who want to hear the words as they are pronounced. Children with parents and grandparents who have different first languages will love seeing how Dylan and Isabella interact with their Brazilian and Ukrainian parents. Those who aren’t that fortunate can still get a jump on learning new languages through reading this book and learning how to pronounce the new words. Eszter Miklos’ illustrations are cheerful and colorful, and they accurately portray an entertaining day at the zoo for children and parents alike. Little Polyglot Adventures, Vol. 2: A Wild Day at the Zoo is highly recommended.
