A Walking Nightmare by Lori R. Lopez invites readers on a chilling yet introspective adventure filled with fear, survival, and self-discovery. Meet Alexis Little Joyce, a brilliant but solitary scholar who finds herself in a terrifying situation when her car breaks down in a deserted and eerie part of the city. Armed only with a flashlight, a found spiral notebook, and a pen, she must race against time and outsmart a relentless horde of mysterious creatures lurking beneath the surface. As Alexis fights to escape, she deals with haunting memories from her past and writes a final message, hoping her words will serve as both a warning and a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. The immersive first-person narrative pulls readers right into Alexis’s world, making her fear and determination deeply relatable as she faces the unexpected.
Lori R. Lopez does a fantastic job of weaving a gripping and atmospheric story in A Walking Nightmare. I enjoyed how the pacing kept me engaged, balancing intense action and reflective moments that added depth to Alexis's character. Her internal struggles, along with the vivid descriptions of her surroundings, made everything feel so genuine. The themes of isolation and self-discovery sparked some thoughtful reflections, while the creatures were crafted with just the right mix of horror and fascination. The suspense builds beautifully, with every twist amplifying the tension. I found myself rooting for Alexis, admiring her resourcefulness amidst her vulnerability. This horror story truly stuck with me, and Lori R. Lopez’s writing makes every page a joy for fans of the genre.
