A Man To Hold On To (A Tallgrass Novel) by Marilyn Pappano is an entertaining romance. My copy is audio format read by Loretta Rawlins. Keegan Logan’s former girlfriend, Sabrina, had an affair with Paul Matheson which resulted in a child, Mariah. She put Keegan’s name on the birth certificate, naming him as the father. When Sabrina abandoned her three-year-old daughter, Keegan grudgingly became her guardian. Keegan was determined to find Paul Matheson and insist he take custody of Mariah. Therese Matheson had been raising her stepchildren, thirteen-year-old Abby and eleven-year-old Jacob, since her husband’s death in Afghanistan three years ago. Abby was resentful and Jacob was sullen. Things had gotten so bad that Therese had considered surrendering custody of them. However, a knock on the door changed the lives of everyone.

A Man To Hold On To will make a great beach read. The characters were endearing. It was fun watching Keegan and Therese fall in love. However, Mariah quickly became my favorite character. The child was lovable, she brought out the best in Abby. The child’s relationship with Keegan was at times humorous; it was a pleasure to watch as Keegan came to love the little girl. Of course my favorite scene was when Therese stood up to her stepchildren’s mother. Author Marilyn Pappano successfully captured and demonstrated the pain and grief that Abby and Jacob experienced. There were several secondary plots that set the stage for the next book in this series. This is a fast and pleasurable read. A Man To Hold On To is the second book in the Tallgrass series. Kudos to the author, Marilyn Pappano.
