Stan is a native of Detroit, Michigan and served in the United States Marine Corp from 1969 to 1971. A graduate of Berklee School of Music and Jersey City State College, he was a High School Band Director for 28 years in Newark, New Jersey. Stan recorded and released a CD for children called, "Stand Up All You Children," for which he composed, arranged, produced and engineered all of the songs. Later, he took the lyrics from the CD and turned them into text for a children's book, "A Little Bit of This and A Little Bit of That." The CD and the Book are companions—they work very well together.
Stan is living in Avondale, AZ with his loving wife of 45 years, Cynthia. The Cleveland's have two sons, Winston and Jeffrey, and two grandkids, David and Alicia.

What important things do you know? Do you know why Mom insists on three healthy meals a day? Do you know the days of the week? Or how to read an analog clock? Do you know how to safely cross the street? Do you know your address? Your phone number? Or what to do if you get lost? Do you know what to do if a stranger approaches you? So many things to learn, things that will help you grow, learn, tell the time, and stay safe. But it’s also important to understand why you should learn these things. And, it’s important to know how to relax, read a book, or sing a song (solo or with a group).
Stanley E. Cleveland’s picture book, A Little Bit of This and A Little Bit of That, is a fun way to teach young readers what’s important in life and why it’s important. He addresses concerns like eating, telling the time, reading, staying safe from strangers and from getting lost, and so much more. Each concern is accompanied by an interesting verse about the issue and why it’s important, all written in simple language to attract young readers. There are some funny exclamations inserted in the verse periodically to lighten up the lesson, like “Oh yeah” or just “Yeah!” As well as safety and health concerns, the author includes educational issues, like the importance of reading: “Learn to read – fill your mind with knowledge.” The author also stresses the importance of creativity and setting lifetime goals, such as what you want to be when you grow up. With colorful illustrations, this makes a wonderful interactive teaching book for young readers.
