A Layman’s Guide to Managing Fear - Using Psychology, Christianity and Non Resistant Methods is a self help book by Stanley Popovich that is designed to help readers deal with their own fears and anxiety. As the title suggests, the author asserts that one of the best ways to combat fear in our daily lives is by using a combination of three methods, namely, general counseling, having faith in God, and through non-resistant methods, which is a defensive approach to help reduce the fear’s strength. The book is composed of five chapters, an introduction and a summary. Topics discussed include critical thinking and deductive reasoning, positive self-talk, self imagery, and exercise. Asking God’s help to manage fear is also an important subject deliberated in this inspirational book.
As we go on with our daily lives, we may experience fear and anxiety due to varying reasons. This is quite normal as we face the uncertainties inherent in human life. For some people, however, the feeling of fear may go out of control so that they cannot function properly anymore. Stan Popovich’s A Layman’s Guide to Managing Fear Using Psychology, Christianity and Non Resistant Methods is a must-read for everyone because we all feel fear at one time or another. This is a book that makes the reader understand fear and then goes on to present a brilliant way to manage it through a combination of three methods. The general counseling techniques include a wide range of methods in overcoming fear. Nonresistant methods teach us not to fight the feeling of fear, but to work with it. Asking God’s help inspires the reader to have faith in the strength of maintaining a personal and spiritual relationship with God. As mentioned in Luke, 12: 25-32, "Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you."
