A Deadly Disappearance Down Under by Polly Holmes is the fifth book in the Melting Pot Café series. Evelyn has gone 'down under' to help investigate the disappearance of Jordi's parents. They were meant to be at the Shapeshifters' conference but didn’t show up. Evelyn's not comfortable in Australia - everything bites, including the locals - but she agrees to help find Jordi's parents. When the chairman of the Shapeshifters' Executive Council is found dead, Evelyn believes there is a link but she isn’t allowed to use her magical powers. Teaming up with Miss Saffron, her quirky familiar, and her aunt, they join Detective Huxton in the search for the truth but it appears that someone has a secret they don't want to be revealed. A bush fire threatens to stop them in their tracks and the race is on to find the truth and rescue Jordi's parents before it's too late.

A Deadly Disappearance Down Under by Polly Holmes was a fun read. While you could probably read this as a standalone story, it is part of a series and should be read as such to get a better understanding of the characters. With plenty of action, this story has everything you would expect from a magical murder mystery: murder, mystery, romance, and even a bunch of shapeshifters. It's a story of true friendship, and the characters are developed in a way that you really get to know them and understand what makes them tick. They are likable, believable people (and talking cats) which makes for a light, easy read. A fast-paced story, there are plenty of twists and turns and it's a real page-turner so set aside enough time to read it - once you start, you won't want to put this book down.
