A Beacon of Its Forms: A Manifesto Drawn From The Deeds of Bob Marshall is a collection of poetry that relays a political world of author Leonard Gigliobianco's making. This world is socialist in some ways and environmentalist focused in others. The author's goal is for you, the reader, to take a chance, dive in, and consider his manifesto for a better, united, collectivist country. The subtitle comes from a man in the '30s who had political ideas that ring true with the author. Will they do the same with you?
I am a Republican. I understood this piece would be very left wing when I picked it up. I wanted to hear the poet's side of the story and kept an open mind as I read. The verse is well written, engaging, and never dull. Leonard Gigliobianco does a good job keeping the collection up beat, even with such a possibly heavy topic. As for what the words are relaying to the reader, I was very fascinated by it. There were parts that I agreed with and parts that I thought were pointless. But that's how politics works. I have never seen a politician that I totally agreed with all the time. All in all, A Beacon of Its Forms is an enlightening philosophical read. Obviously, not many age ranges will be overly interested in this collection, but I urge you to try. Read it with a friend or family member and open the door to hours of discussion points. Even if you're just here for the poetry itself, you won't be disappointed.
