The Internet and experts in the field provide forensic information, while the recipes and inn details require a more hands on approach. Morgan’s daughter, who manages a hotel, provides guest horror stories to fuel the plot lines. The couple’s dog, Chance, is the inspiration behind Jasper, Donna’s dog. Murder Mansion is the first book in The Painted Lady Inn Mysteries. Overall, it is a fun series to create and read.

A female detective and a spell-enhanced dog are chasing villains in the enchanting sleuth mystery novel A Bark In The Night (The Talking Dog Detective Agency Book 1) by M.K. Scott. Feeling like she spent a year with an egocentric, loud, boisterous, and germ infested circus, Nala wants to make a vocational switch from teaching. Her father, a highly respected police chief, is encouraging Nala to enter the police academy and follow in his footsteps. She has no desire to join the force, although, with the observation training her father ingrained in her since childhood, Nala believes that she will make an excellent private investigator. So for summer break, Nala has decided to try out her investigative skills.
With her newly adopted rescuee in tow, Nala rents an office. Even before she has time to get furniture, Nala is attacked by an unknown assailant, surprised by her new canine companion's intrinsic need to gab, and accepts her first case. In addition to all of the chaos and bizarre changes recently added to her life, Nala keeps having embarrassing run-ins with the handsome Officer Goodnight while she is attempting to spy on private citizens. Can Nala pull it all together and build a viable business, get control of her rambunctious sidekick, and manage to avoid a killer before school begins? And what about the hunky Officer Goodnight? A Bark In The Night (The Talking Dog Detective Agency Book 1) by M.K. Scott is an entrancing and humorous sleuth mystery novel that is a fun and captivating page-turner. Even though the story contains a dog who speaks, his dialogue enhances the scenes and makes an excellent foil for Nala, or perhaps it is the other way around. His unconventional addition is entertaining and provides a unique facet to the storyline. I had so much fun reading this book that I didn't want it to end. This is a fantastic beginning for a series, and I am impatiently waiting for the sequel.
