“My trouble began when I started seeing...DOUBLE!!” Dedicated to her own twins, Hailey and Matilda, Tracy Murdock’s Zoe in Double Trouble is about a dog named Zoe-a “Princess Pup”-who is used to having her mommy all to herself. She recounts the day when everything changed the moment she saw the twins. Justifying its title, parents will quickly find that the narrative is absolutely fun to read with kids: “Double the hands was double the tugs!” and “Double the spit up was double the goop!”-and my personal favorite-“Double the bubbles was double the toots!”
Of course, there’s a great message for young readers. I’ve seen my share of jealousy among my nephews and nieces when ‘someone new’ arrives. Murdock’s advice to all the little big brothers and sisters out there is that there are certain perks to having new siblings, especially if they’re twins. As the lovable Zoe finds out, double trouble can also be double joy; “Double the food is double the snacks!” and “Double the toys is double the fun!” and “Double the smiles is double the giggles!”
The illustrations are adorable and the color scheme is probably the best I’ve seen so far. It is bright, playful, and very pleasing to the eye. I also like the thoughtful, fun and educational scrapbook section at the end. All in all, Tracy Murdock’s Zoe in Double Trouble will be a wonderful gift for kids with new siblings.
