Laurell L.M. Wright’s “Yearnings of the Heart” is an ebullient collection of prayers, testimonials, psalms and affirmations of the wondrous power of Christ’s redeeming love. Through many scenarios, witnessed in diverse voices, readers will find both comfort and inspiration for any milepost on their journey toward finding and keeping Christian faith. The range of this collection runs from utter despair to profound joy and everything in between - the full diapason of human emotions expressed in a personable, easy to understand style that often feels like the caring presence of a true friend.
A host of characters inhabit this verse community. Represented here are: a witness to Christ’s crucifixion ('Finishing'), a mother struggling to come to terms with the senseless and violent death of her son ('Why?'), a small-town preacher trying to light a holy fire in his congregants ('You Ain’t Glad?'), a pregnant fourteen year old girl trying to come to terms with her condition ('Grace’s Plight'), a mendicant ('When I Praise') and many others who will be both familiar and affirming to Christian sojourners. This collection warms like a hug, inspires like the best sermon and humbles like a confession. Sinners and Saints alike will recognize themselves on these pages and all will take away what they most need to hear. In the words of Wright’s charismatic preacher: So now you know a bit more ‘bout the God me serve/OMNIPOTENT – ALL POWERFUL/OMNIPRESENT - everywhere at the same time/OMNISCIENT- knows everything past, present and future/IMMUTABLE - unchangeable in who He is/And you can see that you have nothing to fear or worry about/YOU AINT GLAD??? Glad indeed, Ms. Wright. Very glad.
