Ryyah: Threat From the North is the third book in the fantasy series The Elven Age Saga by H.L. Watson. The story begins with High Lord Aledore of the Western Wood Elven kingdom’s army engaged in a battle to destroy an army of half elves. After underestimating the enemy forces, he meets the upstart half elf abomination that his sister created with the human ranger, Donovan. When Alldin defeats his uncle’s forces, it infuriates Aledore, and he regroups his armies to crush the half elves into extinction. Meanwhile Alldin forms an alliance with the Eastern Elven kingdom by an arranged marriage to the headstrong sword maiden, Princess Seliene. Together the alliance hopes to thwart Aledore's plans. That is if some of the Eastern Elven generals can cooperate with Alldin. Alldin’s mother, Brandela, begins teaching Seliene the domestic task of running the royal household. The tensions between the newlyweds are reaching a breaking point, while Alldin prepares his troops for the next attack from the Western Wood Elves.
Mr. Watson is a talented novelist that creates an epic fantasy world with real characters that draw you in. Readers will have empathy for all of the characters on both sides of the conflict; their interests, prejudices and intimacies. His writing style is powerfully detailed, creative and witty. This is a compelling story with characters you just can’t spend enough time with. Threat From the North is a magical fantasy that is creatively packed full of action, adventure, intense political diplomacy and, every now and then, a little romance. What more could you ask for? I loved this book and look forward to reading the next installment in the World of Ryyah series.
