Woodson Falls: 16 Lakeview Terrace is a work of fiction in the legal thriller, interpersonal drama, and suspense sub-genres, and was penned by Andrea O'Connor. Part of the Gaby Quinn Mystery series, this concise but exciting novel follows our lawyer protagonist as she attempts to move on with her life after her husband’s needless death. But when an unusual case finds its way to Gaby, her new small-town life reveals its ugly side, and she is pulled deeper into the mystery with every new question that comes to mind. What follows is a procedural crime and mystery drama with plenty of sharp twists and clever turns.
Author Andrea O'Connor has a highly engrossing writing style that will suit fans of the mystery and legal thriller genres alike, especially in the way that it combines the procedural steps of law work with Gaby’s keen mind and need to seek answers out for herself. I really enjoyed the setting as it’s not a part of the world that I’m familiar with, but it became clear through beautifully described scenes and that insular, gossipy small-town atmosphere that makes for great drama. In terms of plot, I felt that this was very much a puzzle piece mystery rather than a linear clue-by-clue, which was great because it keeps you on your toes and looking for details hidden in the excellent prose. Overall, I would certainly recommend Woodson Falls: 16 Lakeview Terrace as a read that legal mystery fans are likely to devour from cover to cover.
