Wingdog: Soul Pup - A Magical Mutt Memoir by Janelle Jalbert is the story of the writer’s meeting with a rescued dog and their bonding, followed by their daily adventures. The dog, Goose, is as much in need of companionship and love as the writer and they complement each other perfectly. The book starts with the first time the couple meet, and continues through short chapters detailing their life together as their relationship develops. The stories of their adventures and exciting daily excursions are amusing and entertaining, detailed with passionate writing and with clearly an intimate knowledge of Goose and his inimitable ways.
The author, Janelle Jalbert, obviously has a very special relationship with Goose and this comes across so well in her writing. The reader is really drawn into the book as the stories and experiences unfold. Goose is described in an emotive and passionate way that immediately makes the reader want to continue reading to find out more about this adorable dog and his amazing sense of loyalty and trust. Likewise, the developing relationship between the two is almost enviable and the book is compelling reading. The journey the two take is so enjoyable for the reader. This book is heartwarming and inspiring, and will encourage any reader to take the plunge and find their own wingdog like Goose. The details in the stories and the way the thoughts of Goose are combined in the book are very clever and work well. A delightful read and one to be recommended.
