Barbara Lamping connects with the child readers again with another adorable story with a beautiful message. Titled 'Why do the Birds Sing', the sees Baby Bird always going to her Grandma when she wants answers to her questions. This time Baby Bird wants to know why birds sing every morning. Grandma Bird the takes her back to the beginning of everything even before Life began and how the Maker gave sound and light to the Universe. The story tells the children about the Maker and the creation they witness around them and also makes them appreciate and be grateful to what they have.

The concept and message is uplifting and beautiful and reaches out to the readers in a delightful way through the wise words of Grandma Bird. The illustrations are colorful and bright and they give a good pace and movement to the story and bring the characters alive. It's a good bedtime story book and can be used in classrooms and school libraries for read aloud sessions. Children learn to thank the Universe for giving them the gift of a new day and also thank their Maker for their lives.

Stories with a good concept, message, or moral is ideal for children to read as it makes them understand it easily when narrated with the help of a story. Grandma Bird answers all the 'whys' of Baby Bird with expertise and experience and that helps the readers also understand many 'whys' that bother them and to which they are seeking answers.

Why Do the Birds Sing? by Barbara Lamping is a cute story for children. In the story, a curious Baby Bird asks her grandma, “Why do the birds sing every morning?” Grandma Bird then explains to Baby Bird how they were created and the reason that they sing every morning.

I chose to read Why Do the Birds Sing? with my 4-year-old because she loves birds. She is also at that age where she questions everything. I thought Lamping did a good job of explaining why birds sing. I have never heard of this explanation before, but I rather like it. The sun singing to life each morning is a beautiful way to explain life. The illustrations in the book are simple. My daughter liked them and is now hopping around just like Baby Bird. The book has also encouraged her to ask “Why?” more often.

The wording in the book is not too difficult, and my daughter was able to read most of it herself. Overall, my daughter and I enjoyed reading Why Do the Birds Sing? This is a good book to start teaching children about religion. The message in this story is delivered in a simple way that is fun for children. I look forward to reading more of Lamping’s work in the future.
