In Whole Latte Love, Rachelle Ayala introduces the reader to investment banking intern Carina Chen. She is the straight laced good girl with her nose to the grindstone, who doesn’t want any distractions from her goal. She doesn't have time for friends, parties, dates or boyfriends. Here is where sexy, guitar-playing barista, Dylan Jewell, presents a problem. For lack of better choices, she rooms with him for the summer. Free spirited Dylan appreciates all women and doesn't have to work hard at all for their attention. He is happy in his job making coffee; he plays in a band and volunteers to help the homeless. His heart has been broken by a ruthless woman who stepped on his back on her way up the corporate ladder so he doesn't do relationships, and he is weary of Carina's type. Carina isn't interested in a relationship with an unmotivated man who doesn't live up to his potential, and thinks he'd make a better businessman than a barista. They fight their attraction to one another as evil forces come into play that could destroy the delicate trust they've built between each other.
Rachelle Ayala heated up the pages with the chemistry between Carina and Dylan, and because of Carina's innocence, the climax was delayed. Another reason to like the heart throb, Dylan Jewell. He knew she wasn't experienced and he didn't want to take advantage. He was a wonderful leading male character: kind, sexy, talented, and generous. He and Carina appeared to be opposites, but deep at heart they had more in common than it seemed. The way Dylan cared for the homeless was touching, and when Carina experienced the things that mattered most to him, it connected me with both of them. Carina, a young but extremely smart and strong woman, had life lessons to learn which helped her to grow as a character. Reading the story and following her reactions and choices made me question her, but when I made up my mind, I liked her - and the book. The fast paced San Francisco investment banking setting clashing against Dylan's ideals created an interesting story, and Dylan and Carina's magnetism made a breathy romance. I enjoyed Whole Latte Love.
